Teaching
For
10 years, I have taught courses on various aspects of visual literacy.
At the School of Visual Arts, New York, where I taught from 2016–2020, I facilitated writing seminars for first and second year graduate students in the MFA Art Writing and MFA Photography, Video and Other Related Media programs, as well as in the MA program in Curatorial Practice. From 2018–2022, I taught a thesis writing course for the MFA Photography low-residency course at the Hartford Art School, Connecticut.
Since 2023, I have facilitated the ‘Introduction to Memoir’ course at the National Centre for Writing, UK, in collaboration with the University of East Anglia.
Periodically, I teach shorter workshops on nonfiction, memoir, or art writing, often with a focus on working with photography as a literary form. Such sessions, lasting for hours or days, have been produced for organizations and initiatives such as Catapult (US), Lolwe (Kenya), Africa Writes Festival (UK), Goethe Institut (Nigeria), Tempered Press (Ghana), Pfumo Collective (UK), Norwich and Norfolk Festival (UK), and Tender Photos (Nigeria/UK).
If your organization has any interest in working with me to develop a course, masterclass or workshop, I am happy to discuss a collaboration.
